NBCUniversal Creative Impact Lab, 2025
Wide Angle Youth Media believes that the best stories are the ones told by the people living them. Through Wide Angle’s partnership with NBCUniversal’s Creative Impact Lab, a signature initiative of NBCUnites, the organization has turned that belief into reality.
For the fourth project, with the support of Estee Lauder, Wide Angle focused the camera on itself. Apprentices documented Wide Angle Youth Media’s mission, programs, and impact on Baltimore youth. Turning the lens inward allowed apprentices to document the programs that transformed their lives, sharing authentic narratives of creativity, growth, and community impact.
For this project I was the sole animator for the stop motion character puppet, Cam Ra with the camera. As the lead animation teacher for the Wide Angle’s Programs Department, it was super cool to collaborate with the production team on this project!
Funnily enough, I also served as an extra for the stop motion class scene alongside 4 of my former high school students.
Shroom people, 2025
I was one of 5 rotoscoping animators on this project for a dance sequence. I was the only animator to use clay and through it was quite a feat, the director (and audiences) were satisfied with the fluidity of the final animation.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Drifting through Baltimore’s dim street light, Celia, a grieving young photographer, captures the portrait of a stranger with a pale blue complexion. Celia races to the refuge of her darkroom studio, but as a mysterious mug renders in the photodeveloper bath, she comes face to face with the anthropomorphic Blue Oyster mushroom. Soon a bond blossoms between the two curious beings. When consulting their fellow Mushroom People, however, Blue Oyster is met with reprimand for trusting a volatile human. Each Mushroom Person sets out to understand the human condition, learning about humanity’s greed, guilt, and grief, and uncovering the truth about mushroom agriculture! Ultimately, Celia’s relationship to the Mushroom People mimics the grace of mushrooms themselves: popping up buoyant in the yard one morning, but dry and shriveled by the next. As Celia accepts the beautiful transience of her fungal friends, she takes a step forward in processing her grief.
