artist statement
In a world of digital animation, hand-made elements touch the heart. As a multimedia specialist with a passion for animation, I specifically enjoy under-the-camera animation techniques that utilize hand-crafted props and practical effects as a way to honor nostalgic animation classics of the past.Â
Being able to create physical works that can live on digitally helps me connect myself to my work in the fabrication phase and in turn have my work connect with a wider audience. My work primarily amplifies Black storytelling to push back on the origins of animation that relied on racist stereotypes to portray people of color or simply excluded them from the narrative altogether. As a first generation Caribbean-American, I strive to highlight my culture in my work to create the representation I never saw growing up in the animated media I enjoyed consuming.
